IN IT TOGETHER THE PANDEMIC STRESS SUPPORT PROJECT
Millions of people are facing uncertainty, health challenges, loss of income, family and even housing problems related to the COVID19 pandemic. Anxiety, distress and emotional intensity are elevated today for nearly everyone. Social distancing, while crucial for public health, makes some of these effects even worse as we try to deal with challenges in a rapidly changing world.
Disruption of daily life is evident across the globe with very real effects on mobility, relationships, career and education. Compounding this is the public health priority on maintaining social distance, restrictions on travel, public transportation and services. Meanwhile those activities which people often use to reduce their stress and – including gyms, restaurants, concerts and events are shut down to reduce contagion. This “perfect storm” of threats to life, health and family, along with economic uncertainty and social isolation puts conceivably billions at risk of anxiety, distress, and despair.
The good news is that “we are all in it together”. The pandemic touches billions of people – and those diverse individuals themselves represent a greatest resource for help and connection in the spirit of support.
The IN IT TOGETHER Pandemic Support Community is a grassroots program based on principles of compassionate community and peer support, and championed by international mental health leadership. IN IT TOGETHER was created to reduce the emotional impacts of the pandemic, by bringing people together help each other the spirit of mutual support, while reduce the negative effects of social distancing.
